Ice Cream Sandwiches

The only thing that makes warm heated Super Choc Chip Cookies better in our opinion, is a scoop of ice cream sandwiched between two!

How to make Ice Cream Sandwiches

Ingredients:

  • 2 Cookies – we used Super Choc Chip
  • 1 small Scoop of Ice Cream – we used Strawberry

Method:

  1. Take the Ice Cream out of the freezer.
  2. Place the Cookies on a dish and put in the microwave for 10 seconds to heat slightly.
  3. Take Cookies out of the microwave.
  4. Scoop one small scoop of Ice Cream and put it on top of one heated Cookie.
  5. Place the other Cookie on top of that and eat! Delicious!

Tips:

  • Don’t limit yourself to just cookies either, think outside the box and try alternatives like Chocolate Brownie, Donuts or Lolly Slice.
  • If you don’t feel like eating the Ice Cream Sandwich immediately (but who won’t), feel free put in a small container or wrap with Glad Wrap and put in the freezer for later.
  • Want something extra sweet? Drizzle some Ice Cream topping (e.g. Caramel Sauce or Choc Wizz) on the scoop of Ice Cream before putting the top Cookie on
  • Or, want to make it fun for the kids? Get the sprinkles out and roll the small scoop of Ice Cream in that before sandwiching between the two Cookies.

The ultimate comforting winter lunch! Soup and lightly toasted bread spread with butter.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 can whole peeled tomatoes in juice
  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable stock
  • 2 basil sprigs

Method

  1. Heat oil and butter in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  2. When butter melts, add onion, garlic, and a pinch of salt.
  3. Cook, stirring often, until onion and garlic are soft and golden.
  4. Stir in sifted flour and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Add 1 can of whole peeled tomatoes in juice, stock and basil sprigs.
  6. Bring to boil, then cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer until tomatoes are very soft and breaking down.
  7. Discard basil sprigs and let cool slightly.
  8. Working in batches, puree soup in the blender until smooth. Return to saucepan and heat. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

To Serve
Divide among bowls and top with basil leaves, a drizzle of oil and cracked black pepper. Lightly toast a couple of sliced of of Coupland’s Our Country Harvest White Toast until golden, spread with butter and dunk’em.

Tip
Tomato Soup can be cooled at room temperature and stores in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Win Flowers For A Year

During March this year, we teamed up with Fonterra to give away flowers for a year to 25 lucky customers – one customer per store! All our customers had to do to enter was purchase 2 x 2L Dairy Dale Milk, and with milk being a kiwi household staple, it was pretty easy.

Contacting the winners and letting them know they had won was definitely the highlight of this competition. Each winner won 1 x bouquet of beautifully presented flowers each month for a whole year (12 months!) – it’s the prize that keeps on giving. One lucky winner told us that she was going to hand deliver the flowers to family and friends as gifts each month, rather than keeping them for herself. That’s a beautiful and kind gesture!

See below a few of the bouquets of flowers the lucky winners received for month one, 11 more bouquets to go!

Ferry Road Win Bread for a Year

Earlier this year, to coincide with Ferry Road moving to a brand new store next door, we gave away bread for a year to five lucky customers!
Each winner won 2 x delicious and nutritious loaves of Coupland’s Southern Plains Bread each week for a whole year – 104 loaves of bread over a year! How good would that prize be!
This competition was in hot demand and lots of customers entered over the month period but we could only draw 5 lucky customers names out of the hat. See below the lucky customers who won the competition, we look forward to seeing them each week to pick up their free bread.

New Easter Television Commercial

At the start of this year we engaged with Catalyst Creative to produce a television commercial to showcase our delicious Hot Cross Buns on the big screen!
We wanted a video that showed the quality of the ingredients and how delicious our Hot Cross Buns were, without having the smell to back up how they looked. Don’t you just wish there was sensory TV’s? We know we do!

Once the proposal and script were approved, filming day was booked in.

On filming day, the production team moved in to our Christchurch Bakery to set up all the filming equipment including high quality cameras and lighting. The main actors, our Hot Cross Buns, moved into position and filming started. It was a long day of filming, but we felt happy with the shots we got. The waiting game now began to see the final result.

A month before ‘go live day’ we previewed the commercial. There was an immense feeling of being a proud Coupland’s team member when we viewed it for the first time. We were showcasing our delicious food in the rawest but best light possible and it payed off. Our television commercial was set to go live on the 7th of April – a couple of weeks before Easter. We couldn’t contain our excitement as we waited for it to air for the first time!
Success! The television commercial was now live and we started to hear from our customers with how much they liked it.

A huge thank you to Catalyst Creative who made the filming day a breeze, and the whole Coupland’s Bakeries Team who was involved on the big day.

Linwood Store Grand Opening

We are very excited to announce that our Linwood store in Christchurch has moved to a brand new shop, just to the left on the corner or Aldwins and Ferry Road in Linwood.
After months and months of planning, and lots of buzz around who might go in to the new shop we announced to our Facebook followers that we were making the small (but eagerly awaited) move next door.
The painters began, builders started erecting the cabinetry and our signage company began measuring spaces for signage and we were off. Store Manager, Vicky constantly peaked through the glass windows to see the progress.
Once the main construction had been completed we were allowed in. We were given a glimpse of how the store was going to look. The interior signage looked beautiful, the shelving and colouring of deep red, beige and brown spoke warmth and invitation, and the brand new barista coffee machine shone from the suns rays.

Come Wednesday, team members from our existing store and head office moved in to put product on the shelving. The smell of fresh baked goods made the shop seem more like a Coupland’s bakery.
Friday the 8th of March – THE BIG DAY! It was a party at Coupland’s new store in Linwood. The day was great (although it was a bit chilly with some rain) with lots of specials, prizes up for grabs, special guests, competitions and a sausage sizzle where a gold coin donation went to support the local primary school – Bamford School (we raised $250.00+). The More FM team set up in the car park with prizes including vouchers, soft drinks supplied by Coca-Cola, donuts, coffee, reusable kiwi coffee cups and more. At 11am our special guests, The Crusaders arrived and our customers rushed to get signatures and photos with them. A highlight for many fans in the Linwood community.
At 6pm, all team members high fived each other, it was an exciting but exhausting day. “phew, that is over” they said, with smiles still on their faces (little did they know Saturday and Sunday would be just as busy).

A huge thank you to all our team members who made the day a success and our customers who have visited the new store since it opened. Have you been yet? Let us know your thoughts on the new store in the comments below!
